Exhibition "Inès Wagner's Watercolors: Faces and Costumes in Transparency"
This unprecedented retrospective invites you to explore Inès Wagner's creative process through more than fifty years of work. Most of the exhibited pieces, drawn from her studio collection, are shown to the public for the first time, offering a rare glimpse into her artistic universe and favorite themes. Trained at the Decorative Arts in the 1940s, Inès Wagner had a varied career, moving from press illustration to visual arts, including theater. Her career took a significant turn when she designed costumes for around forty productions at the Barabli, an iconic Strasbourg stage. Her delicate line and subtle watercolor work, marked by transparency and nuances, make her a keen observer of humanity, capturing both faces and costumes. The exhibition is organized into five sections, offering a dynamic journey through the major stages of her career. From her beginnings in illustration to costume and set sketches, including representations of Alsatian costumes and historic Strasbourg, the artist maintains a constant dialogue between tradition and modernity. A section dedicated to her gold leaf works and tapestries also highlights the diversity of her artistic explorations. Famous for her watercolors that are both ethereal and colorful, Inès Wagner reinvents the Alsatian costume with a contemporary eye. Under her brush, fashions, fabrics, adornments, and postures come to life, composing a unique retrospective where all eras and styles intersect.
