Talk "Jean Auguste Lantz, a Bouxwiller native at the heart of the natural history of the Indian Ocean"
Born into a family of chamois leather workers and furriers, Jean Auguste Lantz was born in Bouxwiller in 1828. Passionate about natural sciences, he began his career as a zoology preparator before moving into the field of naturalism. His commitment and dedication led him to become the first curator of the Natural History Museum of La Réunion in 1862. In the 19th century, he established himself as a major figure in the natural history of the Indian Ocean. A talk, organized in collaboration with the Society of History and Archaeology of Saverne and its surroundings (Shase), traces his journey and legacy.
