Exhibition: Annie Greiner

Born in Colmar in 1953 and passing away in 2020, Annie Greiner left a mark on contemporary art with works where light and darkness constantly clash. Settled in Strasbourg after studying literature and fine arts in painting and engraving, she drew inspiration from poets like Paul Celan and Ossip Mandelstam to create canvases where memory and forgetting respond to each other. Her artistic journey took a decisive turn with the discovery of works by Gérard Haug and Kasimir Malevich, guiding her towards a demanding plastic research she called "chromochrony": a unique alliance between colors and temporality. Her commitment is reflected in intense creations, as evidenced by her 1984 phrase: "White, you see it even when it's night." Her work, recognized by several awards, was notably honored during a retrospective at the Strasbourg Museum of Modern Art in 1986. In 1993, she won the competition for the memorial monument of the Mont Sainte-Odile air disaster, creating three monumental sculptures 3.5 meters high, inaugurated in 1994. Until her last days, she continued a pictorial exploration resulting in emblematic works such as *Freedom is a Stone That Rises* and *The Eyes of the Sky*. The exhibition at the PASO art space offers the opportunity to rediscover this unique artist, whose every canvas embodies a subtle dialogue between light, time, and memory.
