Musical Show - Drum Chalices, Journeys of an Atypical

At seventeen, Étienne lives in Nancy, spending his evenings strumming some blues chords on his guitar in his room. Dyslexic and struggling at school, he seems doomed to a dull routine. Yet one day, he makes a radical decision: to leave with his brother, backpack and thumb raised, heading to Mauritania. This journey marks a turning point in his life. He puts aside the guitar to learn instruments like the zarb, derbouka, riqq, and daf, guided by the encounters along his path. Horizons expand, experiences multiply, and Étienne transforms under the influence of these new sounds and human landscapes. As Nicolas Bouvier wrote, "You think you’re going on a journey, but soon it’s the journey that makes or unmakes you." This musical show tells that adventure, blending music and texts by Étienne Gruel, directed by Céline d’Aboukir, with sound creation by Mathieu Pelletier and lighting by Cyrille Siffer. A forty-five-minute odyssey where music becomes the universal language of an identity quest.
