In the Footsteps of Band of Brothers

Explore freely the traces of the famous Easy Company by following a self-guided tour in Haguenau. This route retraces the arrival of this elite American unit in Alsace in December 1944, when they were ordered to send a patrol across the Moder River to capture prisoners. The mission, though successful, resulted in the loss of a soldier, prompting Major Winters to disobey a new order to repeat the operation the following night.

Easy Company, officially the 2nd Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, made history during World War II. To recreate episode 8 of their story, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' team scouted locations in Haguenau. The sets for this iconic scene were then reconstructed on a former military base in Hatfield, near London.

Note that the town of Haguenau was temporarily liberated on December 11, 1944, before being retaken by German forces in January 1945. It was only on March 16, 1945, that the Americans definitively liberated the town.
