Off-site Exhibition: Pechelbronn Revealed
Dive into the fascinating history of oil extraction in Northern Alsace through an open-air photographic exhibition.
Along the streets of Merkwiller and neighboring towns, about fifteen banners display over sixty vintage photos, depicting sites still visible or now vanished.
These images showcase the remarkable development of this activity, unique in France for its scale and methods.
The exhibition is enhanced by photographs installed around the Carreau Clemenceau, an iconic site where crude oil was extracted via mining galleries as early as 1917.
To deepen your visit, guided tours can be arranged for groups of ten or more by reservation. Tours depart from the museum.
