Born on August 28, 1789, in Versailles, Stéphanie Louise Adrienne de Beauharnais was the daughter of Count Claude de Beauharnais, a relative by marriage of Joséphine, the future Empress of the French.

In 1806, Napoleon I adopted her and made her a French imperial princess.

Shortly after, she married Charles II of Baden, the future Grand Duke, thus becoming Grand Duchess of Baden in 1811.

She held this title until 1818, before becoming Grand Duchess Dowager.

She passed away in Nice, in the Kingdom of Sardinia, on January 29, 1860.
