Belgian Nativity Scene Exhibition

The Saints Peter and Paul Church hosts an exhibition dedicated to nativity scenes, highlighting Belgium for this edition. Since the late 19th century, the art of nativity scenes has developed in the country, notably through specialized workshops called "sainteries" located in Ghent, Namur, Liège, Verviers, and Brussels. These workshops produced series of molded and painted plaster figurines, inspired by Italian craftsmanship, while developing their own shades using pigments and linseed oil. The exhibition presents a unique selection of these works from across Belgium, illustrating a wide variety of techniques and skills: ceramics, marquetry, clay, coil pottery, and wrought iron. This event is part of the Sentier des Crèches des Noëlies. The church is open only in the afternoons from 2 PM to 6 PM on December 4, 18, and 31.
