Concert: Gabriel Pidoux & Gonzalez Buajasán
The French school of oboe, one of the most prestigious in the world, is showcased through major 20th-century works by Saint-Saëns, Poulenc, and Dutilleux. These composers skillfully exploited the expressive richness of the instrument, offering a unique palette of nuances and emotions. This concert highlights their legacy, accompanied by virtuosic pieces designed to elevate the oboe.
The program opens with Francis Poulenc's Oboe Sonata, followed by Henri Dutilleux's Sonata for oboe and piano. Adolphe Deslandres' Introduction and Polonaise adds a contrasting touch before Poulenc returns with his Mélancolie, a work where Jorge González Buajasán's subtle playing will be especially showcased. The evening concludes with Camille Saint-Saëns' Sonata for oboe and piano, as well as Pasculli's Variations on a Theme by Donizetti, performed with virtuosity.
Gabriel Pidoux, instrumental soloist revelation at the 2020 Victoires de la Musique Classique, has formed a duo since 2019 with pianist Jorge González Buajasán, both recognized for their talent in chamber music. Their collaboration, illustrated by two albums released in 2022 and 2026, promises an interpretation that is both technical and sensitive.
