Opera - Ariane à Naxos

The Opéra National du Rhin presents Ariane à Naxos, a work by Richard Strauss with a libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, exploring the struggles of artistic creation. The story begins with the final rehearsals of an opera inspired by the mythology of Ariadne, before the premiere is disrupted by the unexpected demands of a demanding sponsor. This play-within-a-play setup, blending sharp humor and striking realism, illustrates the urgency and tensions inherent in the creative act.

Director Myriam Marzouki, known for her approach combining ancient myths and modernity, transforms this plot into a reflection on the boundaries between reality and fiction. She sees it as an opportunity to confront artistic freedom with external constraints, creating a dynamic where the two constantly intertwine.

Under the musical direction of Christoph Koncz, the orchestra highlights the richness of Strauss's score, its vocal lyricism, and luminous orchestration, evoking Mozartian elegance. Eugénie Joneau, a former member of the Opéra Studio, will make her debut in the title role alongside a high-level international cast.
