Opera - Offenbach’s Dream Waltz
Jacob has just broken the music box that played his mother's waltz, who passed away too soon. To find this precious tune, he embarks on an imaginary adventure where every twist feels real.
This lyrical show, La Valse rêvée, draws inspiration from the life of Jacques Offenbach and revisits his major works, from La Belle Hélène to Orphée aux Enfers, including Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Le Roi Carotte. Blending opera-fairy tale and pastiche, it offers a sparklingly inventive creation by director Barthélémy Fortier and conductor Guillemette Daboval.
Five singers transform the stage into a puppet theater, where a basin becomes an ocean, a sheet an ancient toga, and an origami a sailor’s hat. Objects come alive as puppets, bringing shadow theater stories to life in an ode to childhood, Offenbach, and the magic of opera. A joyful nod to the power of dreams and the art of the stage.
This show is currently available online exclusively on the Théâtre Municipal de Colmar website, as part of the 2026/2027 subscription season of the Opéra national du Rhin.
