Exhibition: Stone, Paper, Litho, A Technical and Artistic Adventure
Dive into the fascinating world of lithography, a printing technique born in Germany and introduced to Alsace in the 19th century by Godefroy Engelmann, a native of Mulhouse. This method, based on a simple stone, a sheet, some ink, and a chemical reaction, revolutionized image reproduction, becoming both an artistic and practical tool. Quickly adopted by the press, publishing, and official documents, it left a mark on the region's history.
In Guebwiller, a first workshop was established near the Château de la Neuenbourg, giving rise to three lithographers whose works are partly displayed in this exhibition. Artists from Paris and Mulhouse invite you to explore a region undergoing transformation, where monuments, landscapes, and industrial development blend harmoniously.
This exhibition, organized by the Art and History Service of the Community of Communes of the Guebwiller Region, is freely accessible from Wednesday to Sunday. Hours vary by season: from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in September, then from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. from October to March. Note that the exhibition will be closed to individual visitors from noon on December 24, 2026, to 10 a.m. on February 5, 2027, but will remain open to school groups and groups by reservation.
