Exhibition - Igoko

Photo: Marine Chevanse

IGOKO draws inspiration from places where body and mind find a form of suspension. Between the cliffs of the Southwest and the remains of the Alspach Abbey, the artist draws from layers of stone, horizons, and vertical perspectives that captivated her gaze. Her work, born from these encounters, unfolds like a stroll between pure white and the shades of pink sandstone, inviting immersion into the skills and ways of being that shaped her.

Having become the heir to the practices and stories passed down to her, the artist adopts their techniques with great sensitivity. She handles paper like a washerwoman with her sieve, transforms pulp into a stained-glass sheet where light reveals the threads of the weave, or suspends thick words in public. Through patient and rigorous gestures, she layers sheets until the body absorbs an almost automatic choreography.

A dining scene invites itself into the heart of the exhibition. The artist embroiders the initials of guests, real or imaginary, and listens to the confidences exchanged by the pots or at the edges of the table. The techniques, here essentialized, reveal the depths of paper and related materials, highlighting their optical vibrations and narrative power.

The Estratu sculpture series completes this exploration. It consists of paper sheets cut into fine strips, accumulated then joined at the ends by a binding technique, forming structures both fragile and evocative.

IGOKO is an ode to those who work in the silence of their gestures, to what allows one to rise and recover, to those encounters and elements that, like embers, breathe a discreet but persistent energy.
