Exhibition "Antoine Makes His Cinema" - Maison du Patrimoine

A unique temporary exhibition is taking place at the Maison du Patrimoine, designed and curated by Antoine Scholler, a native of Kembs and former traveling projectionist. A cinema enthusiast, he notably saved the reels of the first film in the Alsatian dialect, "D’R Herr Maire," a restored version of which will be screened at the Espace Rhénan on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 8 p.m.

Through this exhibition, you can exclusively admire old projectors and various cinema-related collectibles, mainly used for in-theater screenings. Period films will also be shown using these devices, while collection reels will be handled during demonstrations. Antoine Scholler, who oversees the exhibition, will be present several times to explain the technical system, including the cutting and splicing of film strips.

This exhibition traces the technical evolution of cinema over nearly a century, offering insight into the projection methods of the past. It highlights the precise and complex gestures required to operate the machines, while revealing an aesthetic and expertise now disappearing from the world of the seventh art.
