Dance: Sibylline

In Guadeloupe, proverbs guide exchanges through their evocative power, embodying a sensitive way of experiencing the world through imagery and poetry.

Sibylline, a new choreographic creation for nine performers, draws inspiration from Guadeloupean heritage as represented by Léo Lérus, relying on this "living foundation" in constant evolution.

The Creole proverb "Pawòl anba fèy pa ka pèd" ("words under the leaves are not lost") directs this exploration. It evokes trust, patience, and continuity, suggesting that words, even whispered or hidden, persist in collective memory like seeds beneath leaves, ready to sprout.

Heritage does not disappear: it evolves, transforms, and adapts to the present.

It is within this dynamic that Sibylline is situated, between contemporary writing and Creole roots.

The piece resonates with echoes of gwoka and Léwòz, deeply rooted in Caribbean history and traditions, which are powerfully impacted by the texts of slam poet Dory Sélèsprika.

Beneath the leaves, it is not a frozen past that emerges, but a field of possibilities vibrant with energy and movement.
