Theater: The Voices of Carmen

In a closed space transformed into a living laboratory, a team is preparing a film about Carmen.

Through trials, the elusive, free, and passionate Mediterranean woman takes shape. She embodies the voice of free women—those who are watched, judged, or feared, but never truly imprisoned.

This creation, firmly rooted in the present, presents itself as a hybrid opera where two narratives overlap: that of a director filming the story of the young, rebellious, and seductive gypsy, and that of Carmen herself, who gradually asserts herself through rehearsals, improvisations, and camera tests.

The characters reclaim Mérimée's sometimes ambiguous or violent words, and the fiction overflows, giving birth to a rebellious diva figure. Camélia Jordana reinvents Bizet's melodies by enriching them with flamenco, Arab-Andalusian and North African sounds, gospel, soul, and rap. These musical styles, carriers of struggle, freedom, and the beauty of disorder, support a rhythmic and percussive writing, blending electronic textures, a cappella passages, loops, and samples.

The result is a free dialogue between the heritage work and a contemporary musical creation.
