Theatre: Bird
Rather than letting our departed fade into oblivion, Anna Nozière gives them a special place in a show that is joyful, cheeky, and funny. Through a story that firmly takes the children's side, she boldly explores a topic rarely treated with such lightness: death and its impact on the young.
The social demand to "grieve properly" is often incomprehensible to children. How can they accept the disappearance of a loved one when they don't yet have the words to understand it? This is the question posed by Oiseau, with a refreshing irreverence. What if, instead of giving up, we chose to invent a new way to live with those who have left us?
The adventure begins when Mustafa, who has just lost his father, and Paméla, grieving the loss of her dog, become friends through this shared experience. Their meeting sparks a wild idea: what if their departed could still exist somewhere? Françou, a young first grader, reveals the existence of a passage to the other side, accessible every Wednesday. Despite fear and excitement, the trio draws other children into their quest. But this bold initiative soon causes chaos at school: the teacher is upset, the principal loses her composure, the caretaker gets angry, and the parents panic. Yet, in the playground, the subject of death becomes an obvious presence, and even the dead seem to get involved.
A show for ages 10 and up that turns a serious theme into an adventure full of hope and humor.
