Theatre: Lorenzaccio
Faced with fear and a sense of powerlessness, how can one act nonetheless? Lorenzaccio, the play chosen by David Bobée for his new production, merges the versions by George Sand and Alfred de Musset.
It raises a question still relevant today: how to respond to political danger, between action and inertia? With this creation, David Bobée continues a creative approach aimed at offering contemporary aesthetic and narrative codes to the great classics of the repertoire.
The goal is to share a common culture while questioning the duty of resistance, individual and societal responsibility.
The plot takes place in Florence in January 1537. Lorenzo de' Medici, a studious and fragile young man, is dedicated to restoring the Republic. But his cousin, Duke Alessandro de' Medici, rules as a tyrant with the support of the Holy Roman Empire, the pope, and an armed guard. Against a backdrop of unfinished or destroyed columns, a drama unfolds whose relevance remains striking.
The play is suitable for ages 14 and up.
