Lecture - Hopper, Lichtenstein, Hockney: American Chronicles

This new lecture series, titled "The Contemporary Era: Images of Homo Oeconomicus," examines how contemporary artists have observed, questioned, and even criticized consumer society and the transformations of the modern world. Through iconic works, it highlights the dialogue between art, economics, media, popular culture, and social engagement.

The first lecture, "Hopper, Lichtenstein, Hockney: American Chronicles," focuses on these American painters who represent figurative art strongly influenced by cinema, photography, and comic strips. In Hockney's work, realism becomes a mystery, as if painting could freeze beings and objects in time.

The banality of everyday American life finds, perhaps for the first time in American art history, a universal dimension, becoming a reflection of an America that is both real and mythical. In short, a sharp chronicle of the American way of life.

Led by the passionate voice of Catherine Koenig, these lectures offer a unique perspective on our era, inviting reflection on contemporary issues through remarkable works.
