Adolphe Hirn Square

The Adolphe Hirn Square is located on the site of the Oberhof, one of the old centers of Colmar, outside the southern city walls before 1789. This place was already popular for walks long before that date.

It is named after the imposing statue of Gustave Adolphe Hirn (1815-1890), created by Auguste Bartholdi. Inaugurated in 1894, this statue marked the completion of the park's restructuring works, which began in 1882.

At that time, the square took on the appearance of a French formal garden, with its organized paths and well-maintained green spaces.

Today, it is enlivened by the presence of the Bartholdi high school, housed in the neighboring buildings of the former Jesuit college. Visitors who linger on one of the benches can enjoy the flower-lined paths or the central fountain, sometimes hearing the bell signaling the end of classes.
