Alpine Garden of the Saint-Vit Grotto
Perched on a rocky promontory, the Alpine Garden of the Saint-Vit Grotto unfolds in terraces adorned with flower beds, carefully maintained by the association Les Amis de la Grotte Saint-Vit. This peaceful haven invites contemplation with an unobstructed view of the Alsace plain and the imposing remains of the Haut-Barr and Grand Geroldseck castles, witnesses to a rich historical past.
Below, a natural grotto has been converted into a chapel, where a stone altar pays tribute to Saint Vit. This preserved setting, both natural and spiritual, offers a place for reflection and serenity for visitors seeking tranquility.
Religious celebrations are occasionally held here: the Eucharist is notably celebrated on Easter Monday, May 1st, Pentecost Monday, and the first Sunday of September.
Accessible only on foot, the garden can be reached in one hour from Saverne or in twenty minutes from the Schweizerhof Forest House. A marked hiking trail, the Saint-Vit Grotto circuit, allows access while discovering the surrounding landscapes.
