Alsace Ecomuseum

The Alsace Ecomuseum is the largest open-air museum in France. Its mission is to preserve, study, and showcase an outstanding collection of buildings and artifacts illustrating rural life in Alsace from the medieval period to the early 20th century. This unique site brings together timber-framed houses, workshops, and various structures, all carefully relocated and reconstructed to maintain their authenticity. These buildings are accompanied by everyday objects, furniture, and tools reflecting past artisanal and agricultural activities.

As a Museum of France, the Alsace Ecomuseum is committed to conservation, research, and education. It offers demonstrations of traditional skills and crafts, allowing visitors to discover ancestral techniques.

Located in Ungersheim, the museum also engages in contemporary reflection on the relationships between societies, territories, and the environment, providing an experience that is both heritage-rich and relevant today.
