Alsace Experimental Orchard
Founded in 1980 in Obernai, the Alsace Experimental Orchard "Verexal" supports fruit producers by developing technical references adapted to integrated, sustainable, or organic production strategies.
Its dual goal is to balance economic profitability with the preservation of landscapes and natural resources. Research at the orchard covers a wide variety of fruits, including Alsace quetsche plums, plums, mirabelles, apples (table and juice), pears (table and distillation), cherries (table and for Kirsch), apricots, and peaches.
Located on 7 hectares of deep loess soils at the edge of the vineyard, the site serves as an experimental ground to address challenges in fruit production.
Visitors can follow the manager through the orchard rows and discover seasonal products. Visits take place Monday to Friday by appointment from June to the end of October. They include a guided tour and a tasting of local apple juices. Walking shoes are recommended to fully enjoy the experience.
