Aspach-le-Bas

First mentioned in the 11th century, this village developed around trade, notably thanks to its coaching inn located on an ancient Roman road. This road became a major strategic route connecting Belfort to Neuf-Brisach. For five generations, the Zimmermann family left their mark on local history until the coaching inn was destroyed during the First World War. In 1927, the Saint Peter's Church was built; it now houses the funerary monument of François Ignace Zimmermann. Not to be missed, the calvary, shaded by large trees, stands between the village and the Aspach Bridge, while the gravel pit, a popular walking spot, offers a pleasant setting for a stroll.
