Aspach-Michelbach
Aspach-Michelbach is renowned for its dam built in 1979. This structure, designed to supply water to the Mulhouse urban area, has profoundly transformed the life of this small commune. Around the reservoir, a 4 km discovery trail has been developed, offering visitors a pleasant walk. The nature reserve that has developed around the lake is now a major ornithological site, hosting a wintering station for many birds. It is also a popular walking spot, but swimming and camping are strictly prohibited there.
The history of this area goes much further back, as in 58 BC Ariovistus, a Germanic chief of the Suebi tribe, established his camp here during the battle against Julius Caesar.
Graves have also been discovered on the Ochsenfeld, near the lost village of Erbenheim.
