Aubure
Perched at 800 meters altitude on a vast plateau, this Alsatian village is the highest in the region. With 410 inhabitants, it combines mountain charm and tourist vitality, labeled 'Station Verte de Vacances' and 'Village de Neige'.
Just 13 km from Ribeauvillé and 17 km from Riquewihr, it is ideally located to explore the Val d’Argent and the Pays Welche, while staying close to major Alsatian sites. Visitors can find local shops for supplies, while varied accommodations – municipal campsite, guest rooms, furnished apartments, stopover or equestrian lodgings, as well as restaurants and guest tables – cater to all tastes. The surrounding nature, with fir and pine forests and vast meadows, invites relaxation and walks on foot, mountain bike, or horseback.
A marked trail, extending the GR5 route, reveals the village’s history and landscapes, while farmers maintain pastoral traditions. In winter, the sunshine and altitude make it a popular spot for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing off the beaten tracks. Two functional rehabilitation centers, Salem and Muesberg, also enliven local life. Highlights include the Belvedere at Col de Fréland, the Virgin Statue, the Catholic and Protestant churches, as well as the discovery trail and the cross circuit, offering varied experiences for visitors.
