Baltzenheim
Baltzenheim, whose origins date back to Antiquity, is first mentioned in 847 under the name Baldolfesheim. The village suffered heavy damage during the Thirty Years' War and was razed during the siege of Old Breisach. In the 18th century, the Rhine overflowed several times, leading to embankment works in the following century. Formerly focused on fishing and agriculture, Baltzenheim gradually shifted towards industry. Notable monuments include the Saint Michael's Church, whose gable roof bell tower dates from the 12th century and is classified as a Historic Monument, as well as Romanesque reliefs and half-timbered houses dating from 1660. There is also a resting bench dedicated to Empress Eugénie and the "Blockhaus H8".
