Bartholdi Monument
Auguste Bartholdi, born in Colmar in 1834 and died in 1904, is one of the most famous artists from Colmar. Renowned for major works such as the Lion of Belfort and the Statue of Liberty, he represents the artistic influence of his hometown. Since 1907, Colmar has honored him by inaugurating a monument park dedicated to his memory, located near the water tower. This work, created by his former students Hubert Louis-Noël and Antoine Rubin, was celebrated by an impressive gathering of notable figures at its inauguration.
In 1922, a museum dedicated to Bartholdi was opened in the house where he was born. This place traces his career and highlights his creations.
To mark the centenary of his death in 2004, a 12-meter-high resin replica of the Statue of Liberty was installed north of Colmar, thus perpetuating the legacy of this emblematic artist.
