Bavarian Memorial Monument

Erected in 1888 and inaugurated on August 6, 1889, this limestone memorial monument is notable for its monumental hollow base, pierced with side openings and housing an interior room. Its front face features a bronze door with a leaf, accompanied by two commemorative plaques of the same metal. Atop the base sits a bronze lion statue, while the upper pedestal supports a sculpted group depicting a dying soldier supported by the Angel of Victory.

Commissioned by Bavaria to honor its soldiers who fell during the battle of August 6, 1870, this monument was designed by sculptor Wilhelm von Ruemann and cast by Miller in Munich. The commemorative plaques, also in bronze, bear the names of the battles fought in 1870.
