Bellefosse

Bellefosse is part of the history of the former lordship of Ban-de-la-Roche, owned by the Rathsamhausen family until 1584. It then came under the authority of Georges-Jean de Veldence, who introduced the Reformation there. The last lord of the châtellerie was Jean de Dietrich. The village was attached to the Vosges department from 1795 to 1871.

The economy of Ban-de-la-Roche, particularly dynamic, was based until the early 19th century on mining and metallurgy. Intensive forest exploitation provided the charcoal needed for the blast furnaces. Later, the textile industry took over. Mountain agriculture played a complementary role in the local economy.

Among the notable sites are the Bellefosse swimming pool, built in 1936, the ruins of the 12th-century Château de la Roche, and the Champ du Feu tower, erected in 1898 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Club Vosgien. This tower stands at the highest point in the department. Finally, on the mountain pasture, a work of art by Daniel Pontoreau also draws attention.
