Bennwihr

Perched at 190 meters above sea level on the Wine Route, Bennwihr is a charming wine-growing village nestled between Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé. With its 1,200 inhabitants, it captivates with its lush landscapes, flower-filled streets in summer, and magical Christmas illuminations. Ideally located, it serves as a perfect starting point to explore nearby treasures, notably thanks to the Grand Cru Wine Trail that crosses the town. In summer, a guided tour is offered by the cooperative winery's winemakers, allowing visitors to discover the vineyards and their wines, including the prestigious Marckrain Grand Cru. Local product enthusiasts can also visit producers directly to buy seasonal fruits such as cherries, apples, or mirabelles. The village also offers varied accommodation, with many guest rooms and furnished apartments, as well as shops and café-restaurants for a convenient and pleasant stay.

Among the must-sees, Bennwihr's modern church stands out with a monumental stained glass window covering its entire south facade, flooding the interior with colorful and vibrant light.

Nearby, the War Memorial, nicknamed "of Loyalty," and the remains of the Calvary recall the village's painful history, completely destroyed in 1945 during the battles of the Colmar Pocket. A historical route project is underway to trace these events and the village's liberation by Allied troops.
