BERGER Claude EARL
In the heart of the Alsace vineyard, in the Haut-Rhin part of the Alsace Wine Route known as "The Pearls of the Vineyard," lies Domaine Berger, a family estate passed down from father to son for three generations. After Frédéric and Claude, Olivier, the grandson, now carries on this passion and expertise. Since 2005, Olivier has joined his parents on the estate, inspired from a young age by the world of viticulture. The estate's wines come from a mosaic of 67 plots covering 9 hectares of vines, mainly planted on the best slopes between Colmar, the capital of Alsace wines, and Ribeauvillé.
The fertile soil of Mittelwihr, recognized since the 12th century, benefits from an exceptional climate that explains the presence of the almond trees emblematic of this wine-growing town of 950 inhabitants. These trees give their name to the famous local terroir classified as "Grand Cru": the Mandelberg. To enhance the subtle aromas of fruit and flowers that nature generously offers, all the estate's wines are aged in wooden barrels. With passion and professionalism, Domaine Berger thus contributes to the renown of Alsace wines.
The estate has a tasting cellar and offers tours suitable for all, including children. Groups are welcome by reservation. Activities include cellar visits with historical and oenological explanations, walks through the nearby vineyards to discover vineyard work throughout the year as well as the specifics of soils and terroirs, and guided tastings of their wines. Other activities are also offered, such as walking tours on the vineyard trail, allowing observation of the various vineyard and cellar tasks depending on the season.
