Bernolsheim

Bernolsheim is a small Alsatian village located about seventeen kilometers north of Strasbourg.

Its history dates back to the Gallo-Roman era, as evidenced by the burial sites discovered there.

In 1272, following the rise of the Habsburgs, Bernolsheim gained the status of an imperial village and became part of the Grand Bailiwick of Haguenau.

This affiliation explains why the village maintained its Catholic faith despite changes in feudal lords from 1332, first under the Lichtenberg family and then the Lampertheim family.

Until the French Revolution in 1789, Bernolsheim was under the provostship of Batzendorf.

In 1476, the village had nineteen families.

During the Thirty Years' War, in 1637, the inhabitants had to take refuge in Schiltigheim to escape the violence of the fighting.

In 1664, Bernolsheim suffered significant damage from fires caused by Turenne's troops.
