Bers and Gresson Massif
Among the wildest and most mysterious sites in the Vosges, the Gresson and the Bers hold a special place.
The Gresson, once made up of three farms, stands out for having the largest area of mountain pasture in this region. Agricultural activity still continues there today, maintaining a deeply rooted local tradition.
The Bers consist of three pastures: Untere, Obere, and Mittlere Bers.
Cleared in the Middle Ages, these lands stretch between 800 and 1250 meters in altitude, nestled between the basins of Sternsee and Neuweiher.
For generations, they were used by several families, but their difficult access gradually led to the near-total abandonment of pastoral activity.
In 1977, the Haute-Bers was purchased by the army, sparking protests, although the site has remained open to the public.
