Birthplace of Auguste Dubois
Auguste Dubois (1892-1973) was an Alsatian artist whose work, both sentimental and contemplative, drew inspiration from the landscapes of his region and the lives of humble people. He described himself as a peasant-painter, although he participated in numerous exhibitions, notably in Strasbourg.
Trained at the Strasbourg School of Decorative Arts and then in Munich, he discovered engraving there. World War I took him to the Russian front and the Argonne, where he made colored sketches. Upon returning, he devoted himself mainly to etching. In 1920, he worked as an industrial designer at Bugatti in Molsheim. Later, he illustrated books and restored murals in several churches. From 1928 onwards, he turned to pencil and pen drawings and watercolors.
