Birthplace of Jean-Henri Lambert
Jean-Henri Lambert was born in Mulhouse in 1725 and established himself as one of the brightest minds of the 18th century, the flourishing period known as the Enlightenment. His diverse talents led him to excel in fields as varied as astronomy, physics, philosophy, and mathematics. Among his major contributions, he developed a map projection still used today to represent the Earth on maps and charts. In astronomy, he also formulated a theorem bearing his name, which remains a key reference in the field. These scientific advances, made nearly three centuries ago, continue to be useful daily, notably through modern geolocation tools that rely on his principles.
