Bischwihr

Bischwihr first appears in archives in the 12th century. At that time, the village was under the authority of the Bishopric of Basel, which collected tithes and owned land there. The bishop also stayed there, enjoying vacations by the banks of the Blind river. Over the centuries, Bischwihr experienced the effects of Franco-German conflicts. During the German annexation from 1870 to 1918, it was known as Bischweier. Later, in 1945, the village was heavily damaged by bombings during the battles of the Colmar Pocket.
