Bitschwiller-les-Thann

At the entrance to the Thur Valley, Bitschwiller-les-Thann is notable for its highest point, the Thanner Hubel, which rises to 1184 meters above sea level. This summit features a farm inn and serves as the starting point for numerous hiking trails as well as ski slopes in winter. The village also has a rich historical background. Its church, built in 1838, is especially known for its Callinet organs, a remarkable cultural heritage. Additionally, Bitschwiller-les-Thann made its mark on industrial history with the construction of locomotives in the 19th century. It was during this time that the steam whistle, locally called the "Dampfpfifla," was invented here, inspiring the name of a local folk group.
