Bouxwiller

Bouxwiller is a settlement with ancient roots, with the site already occupied during Roman times.

From the early Middle Ages, the town and its surroundings became fiefs held by the lords of Lichtenberg, under the authority of the Bishopric of Metz.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, Bouxwiller experienced its first period of prosperity.

The Revolution of 1789 ended the county institution, but the town recovered thanks to the creation of the Bouxwiller Mines in 1810. This establishment marked the beginning of a major chemical industry, which deeply influenced the local economic and social life until the early 20th century. Today, Bouxwiller preserves many testimonies of its rich and varied past, highlighted by several discovery trails and two museums.
