Burnhaupt-le-Haut

Burnhaupt-le-Haut, part of the lordship of Thann and the upper provostship of Burnhaupt, was attached to the lower town hall of the same name.

Pont d’Aspach, its annex, takes its name from the bridge crossing the Doller River, an old toll likely established by the counts of Eguisheim. This bridge, mentioned as Exenbruckh in 1545, reflects a medieval past still visible today.

Both localities were completely destroyed during the First World War. After the conflict, industrial activities concentrated in Pont d’Aspach, marking a turning point in the commune’s economic history.

Tourist attractions in Burnhaupt-le-Haut include Saint Boniface Church, a landmark of local heritage, and the memorial monument of the Elbée trench, recalling a significant historical episode of the region.
