Bust of General de Gaulle
In tribute to the 85th anniversary of the historic June 18, 1940 appeal, Joan Beaufort, a native of Molsheim, gifted the city a large bust of General de Gaulle. Created by sculptor Joël Vallon, this monumental work measures 3.75 meters high, 3 meters wide, and 1.5 meters deep, weighing about one ton. It was inaugurated on June 18, 2025, in the presence of Nathalie de Gaulle, the General's great-granddaughter, and Antoine Broussy, director of the Charles de Gaulle Foundation.
This symbol is part of a collective, non-political tribute, as emphasized by Molsheim's mayor, Laurent Furst.
It recalls General de Gaulle's deep attachment to the Bugatti city, which he visited in November 1959, a few months after his election as President of the Republic. This visit marked local history and strengthened the bond between the iconic figure and this Alsatian town.
