Casemate Gommen
This unusual lodge, perched atop a hill, is located on a memorial trail dedicated to the Great War. It offers an exceptional panoramic view of the former front line, accessible via a winding small road.
Although modest, this 4.5 m² accommodation allows guests to immerse themselves in the spirit of adventurers without donning the uniform of the poilus. The interior, simply furnished, includes two bunk beds measuring 2 meters by 0.80 meters, a fold-down table, two chairs, and a gas stove. Dishes and an Italian coffee maker are provided, along with a 25-liter water supply replenished daily. A solar battery charger is also available for energy needs.
Outside, a picnic area equipped with a barbecue that can be converted into a fire pit invites guests to enjoy evenings under the stars. Dry toilets are located 20 meters from the lodge, while toilets with showers are available 1 kilometer away. A restaurant is 1 kilometer away, a bakery-café-tobacco shop is 3 kilometers away, and all shops and medical services are 7 kilometers away. Several marked hiking trails, including a nature interpretation trail, are accessible nearby, as well as an equestrian center. Situated equidistant between the Vosges and the Alsatian Jura, the village of Sternenberg, framed by Belfort, Mulhouse, and Basel, is an ideal destination for nature and history enthusiasts.
