Castle of the Dukes of Württemberg

Between 1324 and 1796, Riquewihr was under the rule of the Counts of Württemberg. Their presence is still evident today through the coats of arms visible in the town, depicting three stag antlers. Another testament to this era is the current castle, built in 1540 by Duke George of Württemberg. He demolished the old castle to construct this new building, whose crenellated gable perfectly exemplifies the Rhineland art typical of the 16th century.
