Catholic Church of Crastatt

Saint Augustine Church, located in the heart of the village of Crastatt, is a building from multiple eras. It is organized around a single nave with three bays, extended by a square-plan choir tower dating from the 13th century, now attached to the modern sacristy. Between these two elements lies the former nave, integrated into the current structure. The facade, in gable style, opens with a round-arched portal framed by buttresses and preceded by a staircase. Above, a triangular pediment houses a statue of Saint Augustine, the church's patron. The choir tower, built on three levels, features windows and defensive openings added in the 14th century, including a wall walk and battlements. The nave, converted into a sacristy in the 19th century, reflects the transformations of that era. Originally, the village was protected by a ditch, the Dorfgraben, and possibly a hedge, enhancing the church's security. A project for a new neo-Romanesque church, launched in 1883 after twenty years of consideration, gave rise to the current building.
