Champ de Mars Park
In the center of Colmar, the Champ de Mars park offers a green and peaceful escape where residents and visitors come to rest on its many benches shaded by trees. Since the mid-18th century, part of this site located southwest of the city has been developed as a public promenade. In 1793, it became a military exercise ground and a festival square, taking the name Champ de Mars. In the 19th century, the park took its current form with wide paths arranged in a cross, inspired by the Legion of Honor. Auguste Bartholdi installed a statue of General Rapp in 1856 on the northern square, renamed in his honor. In 1864, he added the Admiral Bruat fountain at the center of the park. These two monuments, aligned with the prefecture, enhance the site's appeal. Today, the water jets at Rapp Square, the 1900 Carousel, and playgrounds (swings, slides, seesaws) enliven this iconic park of Colmar life.
