Château de la Roche
The Château de la Roche, the historic seat of the Seigneurie du Ban de la Roche, was built in 1180 by the Rathsamhausen zum Stein family.
Over the years, it became a feared place, used as a hideout by bandits who organized ransom schemes there. This illegal activity drew the attention of the authorities: in 1469, the castle was besieged and then destroyed by the troops of the Duke of Lorraine and the Bishop of Strasbourg.
They subsequently forbade any reconstruction, putting a definitive end to its existence.
Today, only ruins remain, accessible from the village by following the yellow trail markers for a walk of about thirty minutes.
