Château de Marlenheim
The Château de Marlenheim, whose foundations date back to the 14th century, originally belonged to the Abbey of Andlau. In the 16th century, it became the property of the city of Strasbourg. The current building, constructed in the 18th century, displays the Strasbourg coat of arms and likely served as the residence of the local bailiff. After the French Revolution, the château changed hands several times before the Bishop of Strasbourg established the Petite Sorbonne in the outbuildings. This institution aimed to perfect the education of the best students from the seminary. The school permanently closed in 1842 following the death of Bishop Le Pape de Trévern. In 1916, the Sisters of Ribeauvillé took over the site and established a retirement home there. The architectural ensemble, arranged in a U-shape around a central courtyard, reflects this eventful history.
