Château des Rohan

Perched in the heart of Saverne, the Château des Rohan, once called "The Little Alsatian Versailles," majestically rises along the Marne-Rhine Canal.

This architectural gem, dating back to the 13th century, was transformed in the 19th century under the influence of Napoleon III, who made it a symbol of modernity and elegance.

Today, this episcopal castle houses several institutions: a museum dedicated to art, history, and archaeology, as well as the collections of Louise Weiss; a cultural center enlivening local life; a youth hostel welcoming travelers; and a school shaping the minds of tomorrow.

Its neo-classical façade, carved from warm-hued pink sandstone, stretches 140 meters long, an impressive length rivaling the height of Strasbourg Cathedral.

The surrounding park offers a unique perspective on the building, while the nearby marina allows visitors to admire the castle from a different angle. A visit to the museum reveals the many facets of this historic site, where every detail tells a page of the past.
