Château du Haut-Barr

Perched at 470 meters altitude, the Château du Haut-Barr, nicknamed "The Eye of Alsace," proudly overlooks the Alsace plain and the Lorraine plateau. This medieval castle, now in ruins, was built in the 12th century and rebuilt in 1583 by Jean de Manderscheid. Perched on three rocks, it offers a strategic position and exceptional panoramic views of the region. A spectacular footbridge, the Devil's Bridge, accessible by stairs, connects two of these rocks and adds a legendary touch to the visit. From the castle, the spire of Strasbourg Cathedral can be seen on clear days. Accessible in 15 minutes by car or a 1.5-hour hike from Saverne town center, the site invites visitors to a getaway blending history and nature.
