Château du Morimont

Perched in the heart of a green setting, the Château du Morimont was first mentioned in 1183. It once overlooked the upper Largue valley before being ravaged during the Thirty Years' War by French troops.

In 1826, Jura patriots swore an oath here to free their region from Bernese rule, a wish fulfilled in 1978 with the creation of the canton of Jura.

Today, although the site is temporarily closed to the public due to renovation work, visitors can walk around it and glimpse inside the castle and its vaulted cellar through the gates, notable for its exceptional size in Alsace. The ramparts and guard towers are also open for visits, and a path allows a full tour of the ruins. To extend the experience, a guidebook titled "Discovering the Three Castles of the Alsatian Jura" offers a walking tour around the site.
